5 Tips to Reset your Boundaries This Holiday

Friends!

The holidays are upon us and with all the fun, the decor, and magic; can often come stress and overwhelm. Read on for 5 tips to help you reset your boundaries and protect your peace this season. It's good to know your limits, even on Christmas.

#1 - Front load where you can.

Front loading is all about setting expectations way in advance. It could be setting expectations with your husband, your in-laws or even your family. Regarding what you want to do, where you want to go, who you want to be with. Share these expectations well before you arrive for the holiday celebration.

#2 - Take space daily to connect with you.

One of the things that we know really helps when it comes to setting boundaries is being securely attached to ourselves. How do we do this? It’s all about nurturing ourselves, reassuring ourselves, and listening to ourselves. A great way to accomplish this is by stepping away and connecting to YOU.

#3 - It’s okay to say no.

For all of us people-pleasers out there: remind yourself as the holidays ramp up - it’s okay to say no. To your children, your spouse, your coworkers, your family. “No, that’s not going to work for me.” Practice it now.

#4 - Give yourself permission to differentiate.

Differentiation is being ourselves apart from others. As you move into the holiday season, think about how you CAN differentiate from others. This is healthy - we don’t all have to agree, we don’t all have to have the same perspective. What makes this hard is when we aren’t sure what we think, want, need and feel - and this is VERY common post-betrayal. If this is something you struggle with, know you aren’t alone - it’s part of the recovery process: rediscovering who we are.

#5 - Remember that it’s okay to ask for what you need from your husband.

Vulnerable? Yes. Risky? Absolutely. The holidays are a great time for him to show you how hard he is working. And if he isn’t willing to honor what you need? Well, this is when you set a boundary. Something that is 1000% in your control that you can do to protect YOU.
