Looking back at 2012 and looking ahead to 2013
Goals for the new year….are you tired of hearing about them? Not me! I LOVE thinking about goals, intentionals, ways I can do life differently. I know January is almost over, but I think that considering how 2013 could look different is time well spent. And before we look ahead, take time to reflect on the year before. I literally took 30 minutes and was able to jot down some thoughts on 2012 as well as some hopes for 2013.If this is something you haven’t engaged, it isn’t too late! Here are some suggestions to get you started.Reflecting on 2012:1) Consider the blessings God has bestowed upon you over the last year. Maybe something unexpected.2) Where was an area that you challenged yourself? Was it worth it?3) What was the worst part of the year?Looking forward to 2013:1) Consider what you believe God is calling you to do. In the still of the day, what is that soft voice prompting you to do with your time?2) What would you like to do different in 2013, compared to 2012?3) When you dream about the future, what would you like for it to look like?If you are reading this and thinking: I don’t have the time to sit down and write all of this out, then consider the following: There have been several years where instead of writing down goals, I came up with a mantra to live by for that year. For instance, in 2011, I decided I wanted to live without regrets. So, as I made decisions, I would ask myself: “Will I regret saying yes or no to this?” I would find myself repeating my mantra: “No regret living, 2011.” I know, seems a bit cheesy, but it worked! 2011 was the year that I finally agreed (after several years of begging from my husband), to share my story to a group of larger than five. I was (and still am) scared to death. BUT I knew at the end of my life, I’d regret not sharing one of God’s stories. A story of redemption. So I committed to doing the very thing that scared me the most. Last year, I added to my mantra and this is what I would repeat to myself: “Be bold and live without regret.”Have you come up with any goals for this year? I’d love for you to share them here with me! And if not a goal, think of a mantra that you can use through out the year. It may just change your life!
